The United Jewish Community of the Virginia Peninsula, Inc., is seeking a visionary, hands on leader who will work collaboratively with all facets of the Jewish community and the community at large as Executive Director. Our organization includes our Jewish Federation, Endowment Fund, Jewish Community Center, and Jewish Family Service.

The ideal candidate has professional leadership experience and is committed to furthering our mission of serving the needs of the Jewish community locally and throughout the world. Our Executive Director represents the entire Peninsula Jewish community and partners with our local synagogue leadership to advance the interests of the community. Our Executive Director must be a dedicated, energetic, innovative strategic thinker who demonstrates the highest level of integrity.

A successful candidate must have the ability to lead and empower our diversely talented staff, to work cooperatively with our Board of Directors and other members of the community, to take a leadership role in fundraising, to oversee the fiscal management of the organization, including the budget process, development of financial reports, and investment of community resources. As the face of our organization, our Executive Director must have outstanding written and oral communication skills and must conduct himself or herself professionally at all times, which includes being tactful, reacting well under pressure, treating others with respect and consideration regardless of their status or position, accepting responsibility for his or her actions, and following through on commitments. The ability to maintain confidentiality, make timely decisions based on sound and accurate judgment, and include appropriate community members and staff in decision making are essential qualifications.

The Peninsula Jewish community is small only in its population of approximately 3,000 members—we are a vibrant, active Jewish community that does big things. Our organization is located on a community campus with two synagogues. We operate an early childhood center serving approximately 100 students, run a summer day camp, host the community Hebrew School, and provide social services and interesting and unique programming for all ages from seniors to infants.

We are located in the historic area of southeastern Virginia bounded by the beautiful James and York Rivers. Cities and counties included in our Jewish community are Williamsburg, James City County, Yorktown, York County, Poquoson, Newport News, and Hampton. Part of the Hampton Roads metropolitan area, which has a population of 1.7 million people, we have ready access to museums, the performing arts, world-class medical care, and highly rated universities. Our region combines the best of both worlds—stunning natural beauty and all of the amenities of an urban area. We are located approximately one hour from Virginia Beach and Richmond and three hours from Washington, D.C. There are three airports within an hour’s distance that provide domestic and international service.
